Project Overview: Echo Reduction in a Luxury Hospitality Space
- Project: Hotel Culinary Theater & Restaurant Reverb Reduction
- Address: 2200 Edwards Dr, Fort Myers, FL 33901
- Facility Type: Luxury Hotel & Dining Spaces
- Objective: Improve speech clarity & reduce unwanted echo
- Scope: Install sound-absorbing wall panels & stretched fabric wall
The Luminary Hotel in Fort Myers is an upscale Autograph Collection property known for its distinctive architecture, luxury accommodations, and curated guest experiences. Two of its signature hospitality spaces — The Workshop Culinary Theater and Ella Mae’s Diner — required specialized echo reduction to match their high-end design and functionality.
Both spaces were finished with hard, reflective surfaces such as polished concrete, tile, and drywall, which can amplify sound and create unwanted reverberation. These acoustic challenges are common in performance and dining environments, where speech clarity and comfort are essential. Our team designed and implemented custom solutions that reduced echo while preserving the refined aesthetic the hotel is known for.

Reverb Reduction at The Hotel Theater
- Performance Clarity: Ensure chef demonstrations are clearly heard
- Audience Comfort: Create an immersive, engaging experience
- Custom Installation: Wall-mounted sound-absorbing panels
The Workshop Culinary Theater offers an intimate, interactive dining experience where chefs prepare gourmet meals live on stage for guests to enjoy. While visually stunning, the venue’s reflective finishes made it challenging for the audience to clearly hear presentations and conversations.
To solve this, we installed 18 custom sound-absorbing wall panels wrapped in Guilford of Maine acoustically transparent fabric. Rather than matching the walls, the client chose a bold accent color that elevated the room’s visual impact. The new design not only controls reverberation but also enhances the theater’s sophisticated ambiance, making every performance more enjoyable and engaging.

Reverb Reduction at The Hotel Diner
- Dining Experience: Improve conversation clarity in a bustling environment
- Space Adaptation: Address ceiling obstructions with alternative treatments
- Seamless Finish: Stretched fabric wall installation
Ella Mae’s Diner, the Luminary Hotel’s Southern-style restaurant, needed a solution that reduced noise without altering its charming aesthetic. Ceiling-mounted panels were not an option due to numerous fixtures and architectural details. Our team installed stretched fabric wall sections between the tops of doors and windows and the ceiling line, customizing the fiberglass infill to each opening for a precise fit.
This tailored approach created a clean, cohesive look while significantly reducing echo. The result is a dining room where guests can converse comfortably, and staff can work efficiently without competing against excessive background noise.

Creating Comfortable Hospitality Spaces
- Balanced Sound: Reduce noise without compromising aesthetics
- Custom Solutions: Fit treatments to unique architectural features
- Lasting Results: Improve the guest experience long term
Whether it’s a live cooking theater, a fine dining restaurant, or a busy hotel lobby, thoughtful sound control plays a vital role in hospitality. By integrating these solutions into The Workshop Culinary Theater and Ella Mae’s Diner, the Luminary Hotel now offers guests a more comfortable, enjoyable experience in both venues.

Conclusion: Elevating Hospitality via Reducing Reverb
In luxury hospitality, the atmosphere is shaped by more than just visuals — sound quality is just as important. The Workshop Culinary Theater and Ella Mae’s Diner now deliver experiences that are both visually stunning and acoustically comfortable, enhancing communication, performance, and guest satisfaction.
For architects and general contractors, this project is a prime example of how reducing echo can be integrated seamlessly into high-end hospitality spaces. If your next project demands both style and acoustic performance, contact our team to learn how we can help.
