Restaurant – Soundproofing AcoustiTrac Partition

Restaurant Soundproofing

Soundproofing a Restaurant

Wright’s Gourmet is an upscale eatery known for its delicious meals and family-friendly atmosphere. Recently Wright’s renovated their large dining room to improve the functionality of the space and the restaurant’s ability to host business events and social gatherings. To provide sound privacy for multiple groups at the same time, options to divide the space such as a glass partition or standard partition wall were considered.

However, the cost, and more importantly the down time, of a significant construction undertaking would be very difficult on the restaurant. While the noise was an issue, the repercussions of a long-term soundproofing project would be even more of an issue. Clientele in most restaurants expect a certain degree of background noise. In this case, Commercial Acoustics provided a design solution that minimized noise transfer from one part of the restaurant to the other without requiring significant down-time.

NOTE: Soundproofing a restaurant is different than using acoustic panels to minimize reverberation. If you are attempting to bring down the noise level in a restaurant space to make it easier to converse, then reducing the reverberation time is the ideal solution, requiring acoustic panels and other absorptive materials. On the other hand, this project needed to isolate sound coming from one area of the restaurant to another, which requiring sound-blocking, or reflection. In these cases, a dense, reflective material is needed to reduce sound transfer.

Acoustic Solution for Wright’s Deli

Ultimately, Wright’s decided to contact Commercial Acoustics and design a custom soundproof AcoustiTrac curtain partition, which was cost-effective and came with a 2 week lead time. The AcoustiTrac partition allows the restaurant to easily close off the room during a function, or retract the curtain when not in use.

Commercial Acoustics manufactures the original AcousticCurtain and AcoustiTrac curtain, which are both designed using decorative fabric with a dense sound blocking core. They can be used over windows and doorways to reduce exterior noise entering a living space, or as a room divider in classrooms, office spaces or eateries.
