This is a common misconception that a product by itself provides an STC. Instead, the STC rating is dependent on a number of factors, including stud spacing, size, and thickness, as well as insulation and drywall thicknesses. For instance, adding an additional layer of drywall on to a metal stud assembly with 25 gauge studs at 24″ on center will 4 points to the STC rating, from 42to 45. However, adding a layer of Wall Blokker on to the same assembly will results in an increase of 12 points!
Soundproofing Installation Made Easy
The Wall Blokker quickly and easily rolls onto studs, and is stapled in place on wood studs or using self-tapping screws on metal studs. The installation rate is generally 3-4 times the speed of drywall installation. When removing multiple layers of drywall for a single layer of Wall Blokker in the design, this can remove several weeks from the critical path on many hotel and multi-family projects.
The Wall Blokker product is installed on top of the studs after framing inspection, and at 4′ wide, falls in the center of studs spaced at 16″ or 24″ on center. The product is placed along adjacent pieces with a butt joint, so that no taping of the seams is required
Furthermore, Wall Blokker is custom-cut to client requirements so that no horizontal seams are required. Rolls and sheets are cut anywhere from 8′ in length to 35′.
Affordable Soundproofing Solution
The Wall Blokker membrane retails at less than $1/SF. Unlike other premium soundproofing alternatives that may cost $3-4/square foot or more (see soundproofing alternatives to Quiet Rock, Soundbreak, and AcoustiBlok), the Wall Blokker membrane can be installed at a price competitive with, or cheaper than, standard 5/8″ drywall!
