The new Virgin Hotel recently opened up in Downtown New Orleans in the Warehouse District. The new art deco hotel contains 238 guestrooms, including two 1,037 square foot penthouse suites on the top floor. Regular guestrooms, or Chambers, range from 294 to 592 square feet. In addition to that, the hotel also has multiple restaurants, bars, lounges, and over 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
Hotel Event Space Acoustic Treatment
Commercial Acoustics was contracted to furnish and install custom art printed acoustic wall panels in an area called “The Manor”, which features 1,860 square feet of event space. The panels are showcased on the walls within arched colonnades, and depict custom murals, meant to evoke a sense of space and bring the energy of the city inside. Upon first glance, it may look like these murals were painted or wall-papered onto the wall, but they’re actually fabric wrapped acoustic panels.
Through a process known as dye sublimation, we’re able to print high quality photos onto acoustically transparent fabric. This is especially useful in spaces that required the acoustic treatment to fit with the aesthetic of the room.
Some designers make the mistake of not designing acoustic treatment into their projects, and then receive noise complaints after occupancy. Fortunately, acoustic wall panels were designed into the The Manor at the Virgin Hotel, as the hardwood floor and gypsum walls and ceilings without acoustic treatment would’ve resulted in unwanted echo and reverberation during events.
Back-to-Back Outlet Soundproofing in Hotels
The architect originally designed a metal plating system within the wall to block back-to-back outlets and other penetrations. One of our engineers was able value engineer out the metal plating system using our flagship product Wall Blokker sound membrane. Wall Blokker is often used to replace multiple layers of drywall in demising walls to increase the STC, and provide cost and schedule savings.
Hotel Acoustic & Soundproofing Treatment
When working on hospitality jobs, we typically are involved in either the acoustic or soundproofing scope of work, but we were able to be part of both at Virgin Hotel.
If your hospitality project requires acoustic and soundproofing solutions, consider Commercial Acoustics to design and install Acoustic Wall Panels or provide a soundproofing wall membrane.
