Mote Sea Aquarium – Stretched Fabric Wall

Commercial Acoustics was contracted by Willis Smith Construction to complete an installation for Mote Sea Aquarium located in Sarasota, FL. Mote is dedicated to educating others about marine science and keeping our oceans clean. Their facility holds several kinds of marine animals like sharks and turtles as well as coral reefs. It’s important to soundproof a space like this one where special events may take place, or when a speaker is doing a presentation for visitors, to ensure that speech is intelligible. When we initially visited the aquarium, we noticed that it was filled with echo and every little sound could be heard. This required an acoustical installation in the multipurpose rooms.

Stretched Fabric Wall for Facilities

We installed our acoustic stretched fabric wall on the back and west wall of the multipurpose room. These are fiberglass panels on a track system, operating as a floor-to-ceiling design. The product is designed to reduce noise transmissions in large-volume spaces. It is made of an absorptive material and ranges in thickness. Mote Sea selected the 1″ thickness in a blue fabric option to match the theme of the space. The panels are covered in a tightly stretched fabric, creating a smooth, professional finish that integrates effortlessly with the surrounding architecture. Designed specifically to address sound issues in large, echo-prone environments, this product plays a critical role in controlling reverberation, improving speech clarity, and reducing overall noise levels.

The stretched fabric wall traps any noise that tries to travel throughout the space.

The fiberglass core functions as a sound-absorptive material that traps and dissipates sound waves before they can reflect off hard surfaces, making it ideal for multipurpose rooms. Additionally, the stretched fabric system offers long-term durability and easy maintenance. The fabric surface can be replaced or cleaned without needing to remove the underlying acoustic panels, making it a practical choice for high-traffic, multifunctional areas. Beyond its performance, the wall system also serves as a soft, textured design element that enhances the spatial experience of the room. By incorporating this acoustic solution, the space is now better equipped to host a range of activities without the distraction of excessive echo or background noise, ultimately supporting a more functional, comfortable, and acoustically controlled environment for all users.

Mote Sea Aquarium – Stretched Fabric Wall: Conclusion

Overall, the installation of the acoustic stretched fabric wall has transformed the multipurpose room into a more functional and acoustically balanced space. By addressing sound control while complementing the room’s visual design, this solution enhances the experience for all users. The system not only improves clarity and comfort but also adds a modern, finished look that supports the room’s versatility and long-term use. Thanks to our team for a beautiful installation, and as always, please contact us if your business is in need of an acoustical transformation.
