The Commercial Acoustics Ekko Eraser Fabric-Wrapped Absorption Panel is a general-purpose solution for reverberation and echo issues. The Acoustic Panel serves as an aesthetic option to decrease reverberation time (RT60) in a space. The Fabric-Wrapped Panels provide an absorptive material covered with acoustically transparent fabric, improving speech intelligibility and reducing noise complaints. NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) ranges from 0.7 to 1.05, depending on density and thickness chosen according to the chart below. 2″ Thick Panels are suggested for low-frequency performance (below 500 Hz).

We offer fabric wrap finishes or custom art Acoustic Panels. All are handmade in the USA. Panels may be Wall- or Ceiling-Mounted, or suspended as Ceiling Clouds.

Acoustic Properties: High-end absorption, with exceptional acoustic properties. Critical for good speech intelligibility in restaurants, theaters, and other large-volume spaces. Limits echo and reverberation.
Design Options: Pick from our stock of Acoustically Transparent Fabrics. Hundreds of fabric options in stock from Guilford of Maine, and 10,000s more available from DesignTex, Carnegie, Maharam and others.
Durability: 6-7 pcf fiberglass core is durable, guaranteed for 1 year, but designed to last 10. Impact-resistant facings are available for high-traffic locations.
Installation Options: Z-clips and Impaling Clips.
Flammability Rating: Class A – Does not exceed 25 Flame Spread, 50 Smoke Developed when tested in accordance with ASTM E84, UL 723 and NFPA 255

Detailed Description:

Acoustic Panels: For any application where noise and reverberation (echo) is an issue, hanging our Acoustic Panels on the walls or ceilings can transform the space with effective sound absorption. Generally in an untreated room sound waves will continually bounce off walls, ceilings, floors and other hard surfaces until they eventually dissipate. The larger the room the longer it takes for the sound waves to lose strength and die down. The absorptive material inside our Ekko Eraser Acoustic Panels absorbs the sound waves and prevents them from continuing to travel throughout the room.

Our Acoustic Wall Panels are most effective at remedying an acoustic problem within a single room, ideal solution for classrooms, offices, worship centers, hotel lobbies, home theaters or recording studios. We offer fabric wrap finishes or custom art Acoustic Panels. All are handmade in the USA and constructed with recycled materials.

Section 097723 – Fabric-Wrapped Panels or 098400 Acoustic Room Components

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section includes:

1. “Acoustic Absorption Panel” Ekko Eraser by Commercial Acoustics.

1.2 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract including supplements and addendums.

B. Applicable Specification Sections: Division 01 – General and Division 09 – Finishes.

1.3 REFERENCES

A. Fire Hazard Classification:

1. Class A: ASTM E84 / UL723 / NFPA 255 – Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials.

2. Meets NFPA 90A and 90B.

B. Performance:

1. ASTM C423 – Standard Test Method For Sound Absorption and Sound Absorption Coefficients by the Reverberation Room Method.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. For each product indicated:

1. Product Data Sheet.

2. Detailed Installation Instructions, including jobsite condition requirements, surface preparation requirements, and approved products.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. All materials shall be delivered in original unopened packaging.

B. Store product in original packaging at room temperatures.

C. Unwrapped Panels to be handled with clean gloves. Do not bend, puncture, brush, paint or otherwise misuse the Panels.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Site to be clean, clear, and accessible at time of installation.

B. Art Absorption Panels are installed after drywall installation is complete and the space is fully dried-in.

C. Ensure that all applicable inspections are completed and that all wall penetrations are set prior to installation.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 ACOUSTIC ABSORPTION PANEL BY COMMERCIAL ACOUSTICS

A. Materials:

1. 6-7pcf Acoustical Fiberglass

a. Processed from borosilicate glass fibers, bonded with thermosetting resin.

2. Maharam, DesignTex, Carnegie, or Guilford of Maine acoustically transparent fabric wrap.

3. Resin-hardened edges, as required.

4. Edge Options: square; beveled.

B. Dimensions:

1. Thickness: 1” to 2” Standard; 1-1/8” to 2-1/8” High Impact

2. Standard Sizes: 2’x2’, 2’x4’, 2’x6’, 2’x8’, 4’x4’, 4’x6’, 4’x8’.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

A. Wall to receive Absorption Panel must be structurally sound prior to installation.

B. Wall must be clean and free of debris.

1. Protrusions greater than 1/16” shall be scraped from the surface.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Wall-mounted using impaling clips. Hardware included with Panels.

B. Direct ceiling mount with Z-clips and suspended cloud mount using Rotofast Anchors available. See manufacturer’s installation instructions.

3.3 PROCEDURE

A. Install impaling clips into drywall using standard drywall anchors and drywall screws.

1. Provide 1” wooden shims if necessary for walls with curvature.

B. Place Panel 1/2”-1” above desired finished height, and press down at a 45-degree angle into place onto teeth of impaling clips.

1. Use Liquid Nails or other construction adhesive to secure Panels to impaling clips, if necessary.

C. Handle panels with clean gloves. Contact manufacturer for post-installed cleaning methods.

D. Contact manufacturer for direct ceiling and ceiling-cloud mounting procedure.

3.4 MAINTENANCE

A. Standard Care Label W/S. Clean with water based cleaning agents, foam or pure, water free solvents. Vacuuming or light brushing is recommended to prevent dust and soil buildup.

B. Reference: “W/S”—A W/S code, as you might expect, means that a combination of dry cleaning solvents and water-based cleaners may be used. These fabrics can be spot cleaned with upholstery shampoo, foam from a mild detergent, or a mild dry cleaning solvent.
