Commercial Acoustics was contracted by DPR Construction to install acoustic treatment at BNY Mellon located in Lake Mary, FL. This included several kinds of acoustical ceiling treatment: tile, baffles, panels, and clouds. These products were placed throughout the building in conference rooms, dining areas, and office spaces. We opted in to using products designed by Arktura and Filzfelt to maintain aesthetics while bringing noise to a minimum, further improving the noise levels in areas where employees may co-exist.
Acoustic Ceiling Tile and Panels for Office Spaces
We installed 12,319 SF of acoustic ceiling tile, sized 2×2, on Suprafine grid. It was necessary to place this in all areas of the building to improve speech intelligibility and reduce reverb time in open office areas. ACT is suitable for large office buildings with both open and closed working areas. In addition to the ACT, we installed approximately 3,000 SF of Arktura Vapor Sky metal ceiling panels with backlighting. These were installed in the main lounge and hallways purely for aesthetic reasons, as they don’t have any acoustical properties. While not an acoustical product, specialty ceiling products, including metal ceiling panels, fall into Commercial Acoustics typical scope.
Filzfelt wall panels were also installed in the conference rooms to decrease noise transfers between neighboring rooms. They are made of a recycled polyester felt material which works effectively for sound absorption. By installing this product on the walls, it decreases the amount of echo that comes through on teleconferences, allowing better speech clarity during virtual meetings.
Acoustic Ceiling Baffles and Clouds to Muffle Disruptions
Our team installed 155 acoustic ceiling baffles and clouds in the shared office space, conference rooms, and main lobby. Filzfelt PET baffles and clouds were selected in various colors including navy blue, beige, and gray to aesthetically match the surrounding area. These products hang perpendicular to the ceiling and are made of a 1.5″ thick recycled polyester that sustains a NRC of 1.2, meaning that it reaches maximum sound absorption. With close to 2,000 SF of acoustic ceiling baffles, BNY Mellon is guaranteed to see a noticeable reduction in noise throughout several rooms.
